Grannys fried okra
2017 - Bart Jordan
Fried Okra is a staple around Thanksgiving time, and whenever we get a pile of people together at once this is a go to recipe. The best part is that unlike most fried foods, fried okra is just as good as a leftover.
1 lb package of frozen Okra or fresh if in season
Butter Milk or Whole Milk with a beaten egg
1 Egg
Good Peanut Oil (it should be dark yellow and smell like Peanuts)
3 cups Bisquick
1 Cup Corn Meal
1T Garlic Powder
1T Onion Powder
1t Black Pepper
Beat the egg into 2 cups milk.
Pout the Milk/Egg mixture over the Okra and add more milk until the Okra is barely covered
Soak the okra in milk for at least an hour.
Strain the Okra and set aside.
Get a large bowl and put in Bisquick, corn meal, garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper and mix with a fork until blended.
Put the Okra into the flour mixture and mix around until all pieces are completely covered.
Put the whole bowl into the fridge and let it sit for at least 4 hours but 8 is better. NOTE: If you skip this last step your breading will fall off during the cooking process.
Fry until golden brown.
